West Gate Bridge truck fire

Motorists in Melbourne’s west are warned to expect significant delays if travelling towards the city after a truck fire on the West Gate Bridge earlier today.

The truck is believed to have caught fire while travelling inbound on the bridge at about 12.15pm on Tuesday, November 12.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find a fire in the truck cabin, but the driver had safely exited the vehicle and there were no injuries.

The fire was quickly extinguished, but it’s believed the fire truck sent to the incident then broke down, adding to the delays.

Four of the five inbound lanes on the bridge are currently closed, with queues stretching back to Kororoit Creek Road, resulting in delays of up to 30 minutes.

The Western Ring Road and Geelong Road are also experiencing delays.

Motorists travelling towards the city are advised to leave the West Gate Freeway early and detour through Kingsville, Footscray and West Melbourne to avoid congestion.

Emergency services are currently clearing the scene and all lanes are expected to reopen by about 2.15pm.
