Altona cyclist Jamie Thomas is gearing up to take a trip around the entire Port Phillip Bay coastline as part of the United Energy Around the Bay bike ride.
He said this will be the first time taking part in the 210 kilometre Around the Bay ride.
“I tried last year but COVID had other ideas,” Mr Thomas said.
“I started riding in 2018 because I was involved in a fundraiser ride to support and raise funds for MND Victoria.
“My Mother in Law has MND and is still suffering with the beast.”
The available rides are 20 kilometres, 50 kilometres, 100 kilometres, 200 kilometres, the classic 210 kilometre loop and 300 kilometre ride distances, with free entry for children under 15 years old available for the 20 kilometre and 50 kilometre rides.
Mr Thomas said he is enjoying training in the Altona and St Kilda regions when he can depending on the weather.
“Bike riding for me has given me an option for staying fit and healthy as I move through my fifties,” he said.
“It gives me time to think, explore areas of Melbourne and rural Victoria.”
The event will support The Smith Family’s efforts to provide children with practical essentials such as school books, shoes, bags, uniforms and further support.
