Mini gardens are popping up across Maribyrnong.
A number of planters are being repurposed into wicking beds, containers with water reservoirs at the base which act similar to self-watering pots, as part of the My Smart Garden initiative.
The beds have different themes including herbs, bee-attracting flowers, Mediterranean and flowering plants of the western basalt plains.
The first wicking bed was created at Yarraville Community Garden. Workshops to create more will be held at the History of the Land Garden in Maribyrnong on April 21, Maribyrnong Edible Garden on May 5, Braybrook Commons Community Garden on May 19 and Braybrook Maidstone Neighbourhood House on June 9.
