Williamstown man charged over Newport fatality

A 27-year-old Williamstown man has been charged following a fatal crash in Newport on Thursday.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives allege the man was driving a Toyota Hilux at the intersection of Champion Road and Market Street about 12.45pm when he struck a  84-year-old Newport man riding a mobility scooter.

The elderly Newport man was taken to hospital but died shortly afterwards.

The Wiliamstown driver with charged with dangerous driving causing death and bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on November 28.
