Warm up your winter with a wandering walk to meet new people and discover the inner-west’s hidden gems.

Maribyrnong Council’s West Walk ‘n’ Talk program is hitting the streets of Maidstone and West Footscray this month, delving into local history while taking in the area’s street art, parks and local businesses.

Walkers of all ages are welcome to join the tours, which double as an opportunity to learn more about local services, get to know one another and learn how to start a walking group.

Each loop walk takes between 30 and 45 minutes and dogs on leads are welcome.

They start and finish at Maidstone Community Centre and West Footscray Neighbourhood House and have been have been timed to match up with programs and activities such as conversational English classes and music for toddlers.

Maribyrnong mayor Martin Zakharov said walking was a great way to meet people.

“I encourage all locals to get out and about this winter and rediscover some of our city’s treasures,” he said.

Walkers go into the draw to win prizes such as Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre passes, Maidstone Community Centre activity vouchers and a copy of A Fortunate Life by Maidstone-born author Albert Facey.
