A Keilor woman has been interviewed by police following the fatal petrol tanker crash in Keilor East on Tuesday morning.

The 47-year-old spoke to police yesterday but was released without charge.

It’s believed the truck, carrying 600 litres of diesel and 20,000 litres of unleaded petrol, was in the centre lane on the freeway when a car has pulled in front of it, causing the truck to swerve and the driver to lose control of the vehicle, police say.

A 49-year-old Ascot Vale man died when his vehicle was crushed by the truck.

The accident, said to be one of Melbourne’s worst, closed the Calder Freeway until the following morning.

The investigation is continuing.
