Woman was trapped in her car by flood water at Altona Meadows

Hobsons Bay SES is warning people not to drive through floodwater after a woman was trapped in her car at Altona Meadows on Wednesday morning.

Unit controller Craig MacCallum said the woman was driving in Merton Street about 6.15am when she became stuck in flood water as she drove under the bluestone bridge near the baseball stadium.

“I suppose that time of the morning she probably didn’t realise there was going to be water there because it would be pitch dark,” he said.

“The main thing is, in this weather people should just definitely not drive through floodwater, even if it’s only six inches deep.”

Firefighters were called but the woman managed to free herself from the car, which had to be towed.
The SES also responded to a report of flooding at the corner of Kororoit Creek Road and Southey Street, Williamstown North.
