Festival brings talent

Wominjeka Festival returns to Footscray this weekend featuring some of the nation’s finest Aboriginal talent. Showcasing a stellar line-up of artists from around the country, the sixth festival takes over Footscray Community Arts Centre from Friday until Sunday. Music, art, performance and workshops combine in Call from the West, an exhibition curated by Yorta Yorta woman Kimberley Moulton, and inspired by the life of legendary Footscray-based Aboriginal activist William Cooper. Bart Willoughby kicks off the live music from 7.30-8.30pm Friday in the FCAC Amphitheatre. Wominjeka creative producer Megan Cope said Sunday’s live music event, TERRAIN, features young Aboriginal performers Arweet Carolyn Briggs, TigerLilly and Brett Lee from 5-8pm. Broome’s Pigram Brothers headline Sunday’s main day from 8-9pm. Details: www.footscrayarts.com.
