Wonders of wargaming

Willy Wargaming needs you.

Enthusiasts of the tabletop fantasy game of Warhammer, where miniature armies battle over terrain, are seeking new members for their Williamstown club.

The club, which started in 2008, meets every second Friday at Joan Kirner Community Hall.

Organiser Lily Morgan said the game taught skills such as problem-solving, teamwork and complex thinking in a novel environment.

“It’s like chess, but a very complicated version of chess,” she said.

“Chess is like a miniature battlefield; this is an expansion on that idea.

“The thing that most parents like about this club is, there are no screens.

“The kids interact with other kids and the kids learn all sorts of skills there because it’s a heavily rule-based game.

“The skills they learn are strategy, negotiation and just being a good friend.”

The club has a supervised group for children under 18 and has expanded to have an adult club. There is also an adult club that plays other board games.

Willy Wargaming next meets on Friday, March 29 from 5pm for children and from 6.30pm for adults.
