Wyndham and Hobson’s Bay councils are joining together to present Wunder Gym, ‘Recollection: Western Region Environment as Creative Playground’ as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival.

The Wunder Gym group exhibition will feature at The Annex at Wyndham Cultural Centre from Thursday, October 5 until Sunday October 22.

Wyndham councillor Marcel Mahfoud said Wunder Gym is an art program that extends the skills and practice of emerging, established and curious creatives.

“Artists from Melbourne’s western region were mentored by contemporary artist Elvis Richardson, to see their worlds from new perspectives and draw inspiration from their local environment and communities as their artistic playground,” he said.

“This creative prompt invited artists to be collectors, editors and curators using their local environment’s objects, recordings, sounds and images as their raw material and inspiration for their artwork.

Exploring how their art practice changes the function of the chosen object.”

In addition to the physical exhibition at The Annex, Recollection XL, a series of large scale temporary public art installations will be located at Laneway Gallery at 44 Woods Street Laverton, and the Altona Civic Centre.
