A Yarraville childcare centre will reopen tomorrow after two children were found not to have coronavirus.

The Learning Sanctuary in Gamon Street closed on Wednesday after it was notified by the Victorian public health unit of a “presumed diagnosis” for (COVID-19) for two children from the same family, the centre said in a written statement.

However, on Thursday the centre was notified the test results had come back negative.

“Since first being contacted, we have followed the full advice of the public health unit,” the centre said.

“As per that guidance, as a precautionary measure, the centre was temporarily closed and underwent an extensive cleaning and sanitation process.

“We take the health and wellbeing of all children in our care and our team extremely seriously and are committed to ensuring the highest standards are maintained.”

The two children had not not attended the centre for a week.

As a precautionary measure, the public health unit had advised the centre to remain closed until a definitive result was received.

“While there is currently no requirement to self-isolate, the public health unit has advised that all children, team members and family members who have any COVID-19 symptoms such as a cough, sore throat or fever should have precautionary testing for COVID-19,” the centre said.

“If symptoms are present, we recommend seeking immediate professional medical guidance.

“We will continue to work closely and follow all directions given by the public health unit and ensure the highest standards of hygiene and safety are maintained.”
