Firefighters have rescued a man caught in a flaming bungalow in Yarraville.
Fire crews were called to the Roberts Street property about 4pm Tuesday after receiving several reports of a fire at the rear of a house.
Twenty-six firefighters arrived to find a fire engulfing two bungalows on the property.
Firefighters donned breathing apparatus before searching the bungalows and fighting the fire.
A short time later a man was found inside once of the bungalows, suffering serious burns and smoke inhalation.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being transferred to hospital for treatment.
The bungalow was severely damaged by fire and the council building inspector was called to evaluate the safety of the structure, which was found to contain asbestos.
The fire was declared under control after 40 minutes.
MFB fire investigators are investigating the cause of the fire.
