Young people across the Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong areas are encouraged to take part in an evaluation process for a new program targeted at people who have recently completed Year 12 and are unsure of their next steps.
Victoria University is conducting the Summer Gap program, which will include exploring motivation, discovering pathways to reach one’s dreams and uncovering personal passions.
Summer Gap project manager Dr Claire Brown said finishing high school is among the most significant transition periods for young people.
“We want to give young people who finish Year 12 without an idea of what they want to do a way of figuring it out,” she said.
“Realising what direction they want to take in their life can be scary once they leave the protection of school and no one is telling them what to do or how to make decisions.”
Young people between 17 and 20 are encouraged to apply for evaluation sessions on each Friday for seven weeks starting on Friday, May 27.
The Hellenic Museum will be joining as a project partner, along with funding from the state government and management through AVID Australia.
Participants will receive a $250 gift card.
