Seven year old Spotswood girl Tuppence Revelman has written to Hobsons Bay council asking if it can do something about rubbish at The Warmies in Newport.

She was with mum Kelley when she came across what “looked like a rubbish dump” where the Yarra River flows into Port Phillip Bay.

“Me and my mum went on a walk and found lots of rubbish near the ocean,” Tuppence said.

“Bottles – some of the bottles were literally filled with water, they were spray bottles – plastic bags, a whole bottom of a chair and lots of things.”

The St Margaret Mary’s Primary School pupil said she felt “bad” when she saw the rubbish.

“It can pollute the water and it’s bad for the sea creatures,” Tuppence said.

“I love starfish. Once I found a whole bunch of them.”

Tuppence went home and penned a letter to the council, accompanied with photos of what she had seen.

“Possibly, they can do something,” she said.

To help reduce waste, Tuppence urged everyone to “try to put it in the right bin or recycle some of it”.
