Your chance to explore Footscray’s new hospital

The community will have the chance to explore the new Footscray Hospital during an open day early next year.

Western Health has announced the Footscray Hospital Community Open Day will be held on Sunday 1 February, offering visitors the chance to explore the state-of-the-art facilities and participate in family-friendly activities.

Western Health chief executive, Professor Russell Harrison, said the Community Open Day was an important milestone in the lead up to the opening of the hospital on Wednesday 18 February.

“Western Health is thrilled to have the opportunity to welcome the community into the new Footscray Hospital before our official opening,” he said.

“Our staff and volunteers are very excited about moving into this magnificent new hospital, but ultimately it is for the residents of the west.

“The current Footscray Hospital has long been known as the ‘People’s Hospital’, and our aim is to ensure that this does not change as we move into the new Footscray Hospital.

“We’re all here for one reason, and that’s to serve our communities.”

Hosted by Western Health, in partnership with Open House Melbourne, the Community Open Day will provide a behind-the-scenes look at key areas of the hospital precinct – including the main foyer called ‘Hospital Street’, the emergency department, an inpatient ward, and the landscaped gardens.

Community members will be able to take self-guided audio tours, and hear directly from hospital staff – as well as the architects, designers and artists behind the project – as they wander through the grounds.

Family-friendly activities will include tapestry weaving workshops and photo booths.

The free event will be ticketed and will run from 10am-5pm.
