Youth sports tournament gets a boost

Laverton Youth Foundation’s youth sports tournament received a funding boost through Greater Western Water’s thriving communities grants and sponsorship program,

The tournament which was held on Wednesday, July 9, involved a soccer and volleyball program as well as come and try events for other sports such as tennis, tag rugby, football, netball, cricket and caneball.

This is the first time the foundation had held the tournament, although it has held similar events around this time of the year in previous years.

The event attracted a large number of people, not only from young people participating but also families who came along and the volunteers who helped the activities go ahead.

The foundation is apart of the Laverton Community Integrated Services, a not-for-profit Neighbourhood house.

Laverton Youth Foundation is funded by Bendigo Community Bank, they work with disadvantaged and disengaged youth across Hobsons Bay and Wyndham.

The aim of the foundation is to reduce isolation, increase skills and employment opportunities, promote positive mental health and encourage healthy choices among young people.

They provide a number of free programsfor young people to support their life goals.

Some of these programmes are training and skill building, leadership groups, Headspace youth drop in, nutritional cooking, youth accreditations, and sport and recreation activities.
