Williamstown has lured homegrown talent Sean Tighe back to the state after a successful stint with South Fremantle in the WAFL.
Tighe, the 2010 Western Jets best and fairest and former Werribee Tigers key position player, has signed on with the Seagulls for the next two seasons.
Better known for his work as a defender in his earlier years, it was as a ruckman that Tighe excelled in his time in WA, averaging 19 possessions and 28 hit outs a game en route to a second place finish in South Fremantle’s best-and-fairest.
Football has taken the 22 year old Tighe on a journey after claiming the centre half back position in the TAC Cup team of the year with the Jets.
He spent time at Werribee, moved to the Aspley Hornets in Queensland and then went on to dominate for South Fremantle.
With the Seagulls going stand alone after breaking away from the Western Bulldogs, Tighe is one of a flock of recruits who could figure prominently next season.
“He fills an important role for us and his flexibility is critical,” Seagulls football manager Chris Dixon said.
“We’ve always said we would be chasing key position players and Sean fits that mould.
“We see him playing predominantly forward and also supporting Cam Wood in the ruck, so it’s a really important signing for us.”
Tighe will get the chance to feature in the same team as good friend Mitch Banner, who recently signed with the club.
Meanwhile, the Seagulls have also signed 2012 Northern Blues best and fairest Adam Marcon.
Marcon, a TAC Cup team of the year member and Northern Knights best and fairest in 2010, will add some class to the Seagulls’ midfield stocks.
“He is a quality footballer and a quality character,” Seagulls coach Andy Collins said.
“Adam is excited by the opportunities we can offer him as a stand alone club and we are excited to work with him.”
