VTCA: Bronca delivers Clubbers’ coup de grace after centuries

Yarraville Club is finally in the winners’ circle after a 202-run annihilation of Hoppers Crossing in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association’s senior division.

The Clubbers held all the aces after posting 6-383 on the opening day at Hansen Reserve.

All the Cats could garner in return was 181 after some sharp bowling from Emmett Bronca (4-45) put a dent in their chances.

The game will be remembered for twin centuries on day one from Clubbers batsmen Andrew Cullen (160) and Aaron Mato (102).

The Clubbers will travel to Greenvale for a two-day meeting of the past two top-flight champions.

In north division, Spotswood (3-175dec) cruised to an outright victory over Footscray United (74 and 83).

United’s brittle top order is a concern, falling to 6-16 in the first innings and 6-19 in the second before late revivals from the tail-end.

Take nothing away from the Woodsmen bowlers, who stuck to the task

They were superbly led by skipper Andrew Dickinson and Andrew Butler, both taking six wickets in the match.

Altona North (2-129dec and 6-125) hardly put a foot wrong in a big outright win over Royal Park-Brunswick (128 and 125).

Williamstown CYMS (152) are struggling in third-last after a loss to Tullamarine (210 and 3-25).

In north A1, Altona Roosters (120 and 5-81) had a tough day at the office in a loss to Haig Fawkner (9-170dec).

St Andrews (196) is winless and finding the going tough in its promotion season after a heavy defeat to Taylors Lakes (5-388). Seddon (245 and 2-70) had a brilliant road victory over Aberfeldie (154) to leap into the top four. In west B1, Barkly Street Uniting (176) played out an entertaining tie with Deer Park Ardeer (176).
