Premier Cricket: Bulldogs defy surging Prahran

Footscray Edgewater has moved into the Premier Cricket top two after holding off a surging Prahran to seal its fifth win in six matches.

The Bulldogs posted an imposing 308 on day one after a 170-run opening stand between Anthony Barton (91) and Dean Russ (70), but their bowlers had a tough time defending the total.

Prahran had a couple 100-run partnerships, both featuring the impenetrable Adam Bull, who went on to make a stellar 163.

Bull’s best efforts were not enough for Prahran, which was bowled out for 294, 15 runs short of an improbable victory.

Bulldogs paceman Jake Haberfield ripped through the Prahran line-up with 7-82 off 27.1 overs.

But it was third change bowler, Travis Dean (2-23), who claimed the scalp of Bull in what was the turning point of the match.

The second-placed Bulldogs will defend their lofty position when one-win Frankston Peninsula visits Merv Hughes Oval on the coming two Saturdays.
