VSDCA: Williamstown dismantled for just 70 by Oakleigh

Williamstown is no closer to its first win of the season in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association’s east-west group.

The Seagulls were dismantled on their home turf by 99 runs by Oakleigh to remain second-last on the table. Set 170 for victory, the Gulls were rolled for just 70. Grant Sandars top-scored with 19.

The Seagulls next take on Bayswater, one of two remaining unbeaten sides.

Yarraville got home by the skin of its teeth with a low-scoring win against Mount Waverley.

The Eagles did well to carve out 103 in 42.2 overs after slumping to 7-37. Their revival was sparked by tailenders Josh Raymer (20), Daniel Janka (16) and Ryan Cox (14). But extras were the highest contributor to the Eagles’ score: 24 in all.

The Eagles’ bowlers lapped up the conditions, routing Mount Waverley for 95. Raymer (3-11), Tim McRae (3-17) and Alex Hewet (2-18) played the containing role to perfection.

The fifth-placed Eagles host third-placed Oakleigh in a two-day blockbuster at the Yarraville Oval starting on Saturday.
