Altona squeezed home by a wicket against reigning premier Melton in a Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association thriller at MacPherson Park.

The A’s were set 201 for victory and passed the target with a ball to spare.

Craig Duff was outstanding for the A’s with 63, while Aaron Maynard carved out 45 and Tim Collins added 34.

With a 5-1 record under new captain Shane Jones, the A’s have the form to suggest they will be there at the pointy end of the season.

One side that will find it hard to get among the finals contenders is cellar dweller Williamstown.

The winless Seagulls were unable to chase down the 179 target set by Box Hill, being bowled out for 160 at Morris Street.

Craig Sheedy (53) brought up his third half century for the season and Nathan Bratby contributed 38 not out while the tail fell around him.

Yarraville had an awful run chase, all out for 99, against ladder leader Werribee (7-255) at Chirnside Park.

The Eagles slumped to 7-46 before the tail, underpinned by 31 to Daniel Janka, added some respectability to the scoreboard.
