Altona Gators began a seven-week period on the road in the Big V basketball men’s division 1 with a 90-79 loss to the Warrnambool Seahawks at The Arc Sports Stadium on Saturday night.
The Gators started promisingly to lead by three at the end of the first period, but it all went pear shaped in a second quarter, in which they could manage only three baskets.
Joey Mausar scored 17 points in an efficient manner, including five from downtown. Mausar’s ball handling was another story, though, as he committed seven turnovers.
As a team, the Gators coughed up the rock on 26 occasions – not the kind of number sustainable in this division.
The Gators slipped to 1-2 and are in desperate need of a win against the Melton Thoroughbreds at the Melton Basketball Stadium on Sunday.
