Altona has notched up two wins from as many matches in Hockey Victoria men’s premier league.
After defeating local rival Footscray last week, the A’s were too strong for Hawthorn on Saturday in a 5-3 win at the Hawthorn-Malvern Hockey Centre.
A’s coach Ben Guy said it was an exceptional effort. “We worked hard during the week and were more efficient in front of goal; we had five different goal scorers.”
Guy said goalkeeper Tom Pinnegar was the stand-out.
“Tom denied them many opportunities to score,” he said.
“Josh Horton and Harry Dolenc were good in the midfield, and Matthew Guest and Steve Campbell also played well.”
The women’s side had its second loss for the season, falling to an experienced Hawthorn outfit 0-5.
Footscray’s women’s side got its second win for the season, defeating Waverley 3-1, while the men opened their account for the season with a 4-1 victory, also against Waverley.
Altona and Footscray women played last night. The Footscray men play tonight.
The Altona men’s team encounter with Powerhouse/St Kilda have been rescheduled for May.
