FFV: Melbourne City in top winning effort over Point Cook

Three months of hard work over the preseason is starting to pay off for Melbourne City in FFV men’s state league 4 west, with the club recording its second win in four matches.

In a dominant display from start to finish, City was too strong for Point Cook, winning 4-0 at Edwards Reserve.

Coach Leonel Malik said things were looking good for the club.

“We’ve been working hard for the last three months and go into every game expecting to win,” he said. “We have good players at the club … it’s about getting the community involved, too.”

He said the 4-0 scoreline against Point Cook was heartening.

“We drew the first game then had a win and a loss, but we haven’t been convincing in front of goal,” he said.

“As a team we have been working a lot on positioning in the forward half – and that paid off against Point Cook.

“We dominated for 90 minutes and deserved the win. We had another five or six clear chances to score.”

The win moves City to fourth on the ladder with two wins, a draw and loss.

This week City plays Brimbank Stallions at Edwards Reserve.

City was joined on the winners’ list in state league 4 west by Altona North, which easily accounted for Laverton 4-0, while Maribyrnong Greens drew 1-1 with Sebastopol Vikings.

In other FFV matches, Altona Magic drew with Sydenham Park 1-1 in state league 1 north-west and Altona East Phoenix went down to Sunbury United 1-0. In state league 2 north-west, Yarraville defeated Melbourne University 2-1.

In state league 3 north-west, Williamstown won a high-scoring encounter with Brunswick Zebras 4-3 and Altona City lost 1-0 to Western Eagles.
