VU Western Lightning kept its Victorian Netball League finals hopes alive with a five-goal win against Peninsula Waves last Wednesday.
Nothing could separate the two sides for most of the match, with both trading goals in the first half. After taking a one-goal lead into half-time, the Lightning was able to build some momentum in the third term, scoring 14 goals to extend the margin to seven.
The Waves fought back in the last quarter, but the deficit proved too great and VU celebrated a 50-45 win. Lightning shooter Sophie Gunn finished with 37 goals.
The Lightning is fifth on the VNL ladder but six points outside the top four. To qualify for the finals, VU must win its last two matches and the Southern Saints or Peninsula Waves must lose both their games.
