Western Bulldogs look to the past with new logo | What do you think?

The Bulldog is back.

The Western Bulldogs have unveiled their newest logo, a return to the “full bodied” Bulldog formally adopted in the 1920s.

The updated logo replaces the “robodog” introduced in the 1990s and marks a nod to the past with a look to the future of the club.

Speaking at the logo launch at the Pumping Station at Spotswood’s Scienceworks on Tuesday, club president Peter Gordon said the “fierce” new logo captures the spirit of the club and its players.

“It was just three years ago we changed our playing jersey back to honour our past with the return of the hoops,” he said.

“The new logo epitomises the character and the spirit of the club, its players and its attitude.”

He said the new full-bodied Bulldog is looking to the fans in the growing western suburbs.

“We think it’s a really exciting time for the Western Bulldogs and we’re ready for a new visual identity.”

Recent Hall of Fame inductee and club games record holder Brad Johnson said the logo had passed a big test – his own kids.

He said the aggressive new logo would help spur players in the red-white-and-blue on the field.

“You put that jumper on with that logo and you get that tingle down the back.”

Bulldog Jordan Roughead said the current crop of players were itching to get back on the field under the new logo and predicts a big season in 2015.

The logo is a central part of the club’s new social media campaign, challenging fans to get on board and #BeMoreBulldog.
