Premier Cricketer of the Week: Week 4

Given his last 10 Victorian Premier Cricket outings has earned him 813 runs at an average of 101, it’s no surprise Marcus Stoinis have been a bigger fixture in the Bushrangers lineup this season.

But on Saturday he was back playing with home club Northcote, down at Port Fairy for the Bush Bash round, and he proved a massive hit on and off the field.

He worked with Port Fairy’s under 13 players before taking 4-37 with the ball and scoring 113 with the bat.

The performance has earned him TWR Sport’s Premier Cricketer of the Week. Keep an eye on  @TWRSport on Twitter or TWR Sport on Facebook each week for the latest Cricketer of the Week.

Maybe you will be next.

What did you think of your performance?

It was good to get back and play for Northcote, they have been like a family for me since I moved over from Perth. It also helped that we got the local crowd onside early.

Who do you rate highest in your team and why?

Ben Abbatangelo has been a big improver, he has had a few good starts and looks more composed at the crease. He’s only 21. Our captain Steven Taylor is a very good player, though he’s out injured at the moment. And Joel Hamilton, our opening bowler, is getting fitter all the time.

Who is the best player in Premier Cricket (outside of your team)?

I think David King (Ringwood) has had a brilliant start to the year, scoring tons and playing in the Futures League. I also faced Mark Stafford (Melbourne Uni) on the weekend and he’s a very impressive bowler. There’s a lot of good older heads around but they’re two young players that are really good.

What’s the best sledge you’ve heard?

I’ve certainly copped a bit since I first moved over here. Frankston absolutely love getting stuck into me (laughs), nothing that I can really repeat on the record, but it’s good fun.

Who puts on the best spread at the tea break and why?

That’s a hard one. Any tips for me? I would have to plug the home team I think. Northcote have the make-your-own sandwiches, and the chicken’s always fresh.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS

James Muirhead (St Kilda) – 5-18 (10) and 17 not out

Dean Russ (Footscray Edgewater) – 110 not out

Matthew Brown (Melbourne) – 92 not out
