Premier Cricketer of the Week: Week 5

It’s been a little while coming, but Prahran’s Matt Wilcox announced himself as a player to watch this season with a sensational performance against Melbourne at the weekend.

Thrown the ball with Melbourne rollicking along at six an over, Wilcox tore through the Demons line-up to take his maiden Premier First XI five wicket haul, finishing with 6/28 off 13.4 overs as Prahran rolled the hosts for 124.

It was a career best for Wilcox, and his first bag of five for the club since 2010 (in the third XI).

The performance has earned him TWR Sport’s Premier Cricketer of the Week.

Keep an eye on @TWRSport on Twitter or TWR Sport on Facebook each week for the latest Cricketer of the Week.

Maybe you will be next.

What did you think of your performance?

It was a definitely a bit of a relief, I’d had a few lean weeks so it was really pleasing to get a few. We spoke at the start of the year about performing well against the good sides and on their home decks, so to get a few on what is generally a pretty flat pitch was great.

Who do you rate highest in your team and why?

You’ve got to say James Miller, he’s the benchmark and probably the best in the comp. Everything he does in training and preparation is outstanding, and being an all-rounder myself he’s someone I model my game on. That’s where I want to be.

Who is the best player in premier cricket (outside of your team)?

I’ve played against Marcus Stoinis a few times and he’s impressed with everything he’s done. I guess he’s more in the Bushrangers than Premier Cricket, but he’s still awesome.

What’s the best sledge you’ve ever heard?

I’ve drawn a blank, but I’m going to bat against Melbourne this week so I might cop a bit out there. Might have to check back next week (laughs).

Who puts the best spread on at the tea break and why?

I do like it at Melbourne, they’ve got the jam tarts that everyone’s a fan of. Other than that Carlton is great, the roast chicken always goes down well.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS

Ben Abbatangelo (Northcote) – 104 not out
