Williamstown CYMS has bulldozed its way to the Victorian Turf Cricket Association west A1 grand final with a resounding 107-run semi-final win against Wyndhamvale at Fearon Reserve.
CYs veteran Andrew Leetet mowed down the visitors on the second and final day with a stunning 7-41 off 28 uninterrupted overs to have the Falcons all out for 93 chasing the 201 target.
Despite the long spell, Leetet said he had plenty of juice left in the tank for CYs’ mouth-watering four-day grand final date with Sunshine United.
“To bowl 28 unchanged takes a bit out of you, but I’m absolutely ready for the grand final,” he said.
“It should be a good game. Sunshine United have been pretty good all year and when we played them in the last round it was close.”
St Andrews Footscray went down to Sunshine United by 122 runs at Selwyn Park in the other semi-final.
United posted 6-234 with Mathew Pipczak (2-32) and Ushan Yaddrhi (2-48) offering the only resistance in the Saints’ bowling attack.
The Saints were bowled out for 112, Gihan Kankanamge top-scoring with 45.
In west B1, Kingsville Baptist pulled off one of the upsets of the VTCA finals, beating minor premier West Newport outright to set up a grand final clash with Deer Park.
In sub-district cricket, Aaron Maynard posted 109 not out as Altona finished the regular season with a 93-run win over Brunswick.
The A’s face a tough quarter-final assignment, having to travel to Melton.
Yarraville’s dream home-and-away campaign ended on a low note with a 49-run loss to Kew.
The Eagles dropped to fifth as a result, and their finals campaign will be sudden death all the way, starting with this weekend’s tough away quarter-final against Plenty Valley.
In WDCA, the A-turf grand final will be contested by Melton Centrals and Grand United.
