Altona Gators have won four of their past five matches in the Big V basketball men’s division 2 to breathe life into their season.
The Gators had to grind out a defence-minded 63-51 victory over Sherbrooke Suns at the Altona Sports Centre on Sunday to keep the momentum going.
Patrick Green and Justin Eckhardt were the catalysts to the latest win with both producing double-doubles for the Gators.
Green had 13 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals to be the game’s MVP, while Eckhardt had 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Altona’s record improved to 4-4, which has them clinging to a spot around the middle of the ladder.
A tough game awaits the Gators on Saturday night, as they hit the road to face the undefeated Pakenham Warriors.
In women’s division 2, the youthful Altona Gators remain without a win after eight tries.
The Gators were out-classed 93-48 by the Collingwood All Stars at Collingwood College on Sunday.
Cassie Favero was the top scorer for the Gators with 15 points.
The Gators will host Melbourne University Black Angels at the Altona Sports Centre on Sunday as they look for their first win of the season.
