The western suburbs dominated over the opening three rounds of Hockey Victoria’s women’s premier league – Altona and Footscray are both undefeated and occupy the top two spots on the ladder.

Altona came from a goal down at half-time to beat MCC 3-1 at Sugargum Drive on Saturday.

Captain Danielle Schubach, Lisa Schrock and Emma Hatton found the back of the net for the A’s.

Footscray won a seven-goal thriller 4-3 over Mentone. Tegan Purser fired in a double, while Bethany Russ and Tara Hall completed the dose for the ladder-leading Bulldogs.

In the men’s premier league, Altona broke through for its first win of the season, edging out MCC 2-1 at home.

Patrick Phillips and Tim Sheahan found the back of the net for the A’s.

But it was another barren weekend for Footscray, losing 4-1 to Powerhouse/St Kilda.

Justin Ellis was the Bulldogs’ lone goalscorer.
