Altona smashes Albion big time

Altona scored a runaway 103-point win over Albion in the Western Region Football League division 1 at JR Parsons Reserve on Saturday.

The Vikings ran riot in an 11-goal-to-nil final quarter to earn a significant percentage boost from a game that was hard-fought in the first three quarters.

Patrick Rose was the talk of Sugargum Drive on Saturday night after kicking 11 goals in a best-on-ground display.

Omar Abou-Zeid and Kyle Blake joined in the fun with four goals apiece.

Altona is starting to hit its straps again after a mid-season lull.

The Vikings have won three games on the trot to move up to third.

Saade Ghazi’s team will go into this Saturday’s meeting with St Albans at Grant Reserve as hot favourite.

While Altona is on the rise, Spotswood appears to be going the other way.

The Woodsmen were beaten for a third straight week when going down to Hoppers Crossing by nine points in a low-scoring affair at McLean Reserve.

The Woodsmen led by 17 points at three-quarter time, only to be over-run five goals to one in the last term.

Mitchell Coleman kicked four goals to be named best for Spotswood.

In division 2, the race for fourth spot heated up at the weekend with Manor Lakes, Parkside and Newport Power all winning, while West Footscray all but dropped out of contention.

North Footscray’s finals spot is not guaranteed after it went down to Newport Power by 54 points.

The Power, sitting third last, is a win away from the third-placed Devils, who have lost their past three.

Youssef El Hawli and Mustafa Mesto were outstanding for the Power with five goals apiece.

Parkside also moved to within a game of North Footscray after its shock 33-point win over Point Cook. Nikolas Goulas, Riley O’Shea and Chris Muratore were the standouts in the Magpies win.

Yarraville-Seddon maintained its hot streak, beating Albanvale by 135 points.

Chris Salvador brought up his 50th goal of the season on a day he booted five.

In division 3, Laverton went down by 138 points to Point Cook Centrals.
