Altona stuns Deer Park in round of upsets

Altona has taken out the biggest scalp of all in beating three-peat premiers Deer Park by nine points in Western Region Football League division 1 at Grant Reserve on Saturday.

The Vikings held the Lions’ star-studded forward line to just seven goals, including just one to boom recruit Brendan Fevola.

Altona had six individual goalkickers, including two each to Kelly Pickard and Jordan Robbins.

After a round of upsets in the top flight, Spotswood is looking for answers after a shock 11-point loss to Wyndhamvale, which claimed its first win in the division.

In division 2, Yarraville-Seddon comfortably accounted for Albanvale, winning by 25 points at Robert Bruce Oval.

West Footscray was on the receiving end of a 235-point whack from Caroline Springs at the Town Centre Oval.

The Roosters had no answer to 11-goal star Brian Lake.

In division 3, Newport Power heads into the interleague break in second place after a 24-point win over North Sunshine at Dempster Park.

Parkside burst out of the blocks fast in a 20-point win over a gallant Wyndham Suns at Goddard Street Reserve.

Braybrook lost by 28 points to Sunshine Heights at Ainsworth Reserve, while Laverton was no match for ladder-leader Tarneit at Laverton Park.
