Altona East Phoenix continues to put pressure on the top sides in FV state league 2 north-west. The Phoenix scored in each half to get the 2-0 win against Moreland United on Saturday to get their fourth win of the season. In state league 1 north-west, Altona City lost to Sydenham Park, 2-1. In state league 4 west, Laverton had a big 6-1 win against Golden Plains, while Melbourne City lost 4-0 to Gisborne.

VAFA

Williamstown CYMS fell just short against AJAX in the Victorian Amatuer Football Association Premier B competition on Saturday. The CYs’ trailed for most of the day, with 21 points the biggest margin at any of the breaks. The CYs’ kicked four goals to two in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough, losing 11.12 (78)-10.8 (68). Declan Edwards kicked three goals in the loss, while Bradley Tucker was named their best. The CYs sit eighth after five rounds with one win.

Big V

Altona Gators had to fight hard to get the win in Big V men’s division 2 on Saturday. Facing a winless Melton Thoroughbreds side, the Gators trailed by seven points at the first break. They were able to turn it around in the second quarter to lead by eight points at half time. The Gators were able to hold onto the lead, winning 82-70. Jovan Bojanic top scored with 20 points coming off the bench. The Gators sit in fifth with six wins from nine games.

Hockey

Altona had a massive win in the Hockey Victoria men’s premier league on Saturday. Altona travelled to Hawthorn and came away with the points in a 7-2 win. Cooper Burns was the star up front, scoring five goals in the win. Jesse Gatt scored the other two. The win was Altona’s third for the season. In the women’s premier league, Altona lost to Hawthorn 6-2. Altona is yet to win a match in that competition.
