Around the grounds Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay

VSDCA

There was no play yet again in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association. More heavy rain last week meant many grounds were unavailable, on top of a number of grounds already struggling to be ready before the downpour. The wash out, the third in a row, has resulted in the first no result. The first two-day games were turned into one-day games after the first two washouts. Round one has been officially abandoned, with round two to be played this weekend.

Williamstown has added another two key pieces of the puzzle for next year’s Victorian Football League season. The Seagulls announced that Nick Ebinger is returning to the club having spent this year playing local football. Essendon District Football League premier division best and fairest winner Will Jury has also signed as he looks to take the next step in his football career. The Seagulls also announced that Danica Pederson was returning from Collingwood to again be part of their women’s side.

Premier

Footscray’s start to the Victorian Premier Cricket season is again on hold. For a third straight week, all men’s games were called off. Heavy rain and flooding meant many grounds were unplayable. The Bulldogs home ground, Mervyn Hughes Oval, was among the worst affected with flooding in the Footscray Park area. The Bulldogs round two match against Melbourne is now a one-day match set to start this Saturday.

Cricketers in the Western Suburbs Churches and Community Cricket Association were among the rare ones to get on the pitch on Saturday. Many games were called off across the 13 divisions, but there was still plenty of action. In division 1, West Point beat the Brimbank Strikers and Williams Landing accounted for Truganina. The other two division 1 matches were washed out.
