Altona snuck home in a thriller against Bundoora RSL in the Bowls Victoria weekend pennant premier division. Playing under lights on Friday night, Altona won 76 (14)-72 (4). Nathan Wilson and David Ferguson were the winning skips. Yarraville Footscray remains without a win, losing to Melbourne, 74 (16)-61 (2). Brett Mahoney was the winning skip for Yarraville Footscray.

VAFA

The Victorian Amateur Football Association season will kick off on April 15 next year. The VAFA released its calendar for next year, with all senior competitions set to kick off that weekend. The men’s premier competitions will no longer have two consecutive byes, with one of those byes to be held later in the season. The women’s premier competition will increase to 10 teams and they will play an 18 round season. It’s hoped the that the second and third women’s competitions will be in the same format.

VFL

Stella Bridgewater and Michael Ktona will be back in Williamstown colours next season. The Victorian Football League club announced last week the two had committed to its women’s and men’s teams respectively. Bridgewater played all 14 games in her first season at the club, while Ktona was able to crack the senior side in his first year at the club.

AFLW

The Western Bulldogs will play finals this season for the first time since 2018 in the AFLW competition. The Bulldogs needed a final round win against Carlton in the final round on Friday night against Carlton. Skipper Ellie Blackburn was the hero kicking a goal in the dying minutes to put the Bulldogs in front. They held on to win 5.4 (34)-4.7 (31) despite the Blues having a shot on goal after the siren to claim the win.
