Altona and Yarraville Footscray both suffered losses in the Bowls Victoria weekend pennant premier division on Saturday. Altona lost to ladder leaders Melbourne, 82 (14)-68 (4). Dane McKinnon and Nathan Wilson were the winning skips for Altona. Yarraville Footscray lost to second-placed Deer Park, 96 (16)-82 (2), with Brett Mahoney the lone winning skip for Yarraville Footscray. After 11 rounds, Altona sits in fifth and Yarraville Footscray in seventh.
Premier
Footscray had a big win against Essendon in Victorian Premier Cricket on Saturday. Batting first, Essendon was restricted to 9-197 from its overs. Dean Russ was the only multiple wicket taker for the Bulldogs, with two. The Bulldogs started well with the bat and that flowed through the whole innings, as they made the winning runs in the 38th over, finishing 2-198. Dylan Brasher had his best performance of the season, making 91. The Bulldogs remain fifth on the ladder.
VTCA
Williamstown CYMS and St Andrews both had wins on Saturday in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association women’s competition. The CYs proved too strong for the Altona Roosters. The Roosters made 3-89 from their overs, with the CYs finishing 1-92 in reply. St Andrews came away with the win against Burnside Springs. Burnside made 4-108, with St St Andrews finishing 3-110 in reply.
VSDCA
A one run thriller between Taylors Lakes and Altona was the highlight of the opening round of the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association T20 competition on Tuesday night. The A’s needed two runs off the final ball to get victory, but a run out gave Taylors Lakes victory. In other matches, Yarraville lost to Melton, Spotswood beat Werribee and Williamstown lost to Hoppers Crossing. Round two will be played this week.
