The Altona Falcons cemented their spot in the Victorian Men’s and Mixed Netball Association premier men’s competition top four. In the first game after the Christmas break, the Falcons accounted for the Ariels, 76-52. The Falcons sit in fourth with two rounds remaining. In the premier mixed competition, the Falcons beat the Valley Wolves, 67-50. The Falcons sit in third spot.

Bowls

Altona fell just short against Bundoora RSL in Bowls Victoria weekend pennant premier division on Saturday. David Ferguson’s rink won 31-14 to keep Altona in the match, but it lost by one shot, 84 (16)-83 (2). Altona sits sixth on the ladder, 16 points behind fourth placed Clayton. Seventh placed Yarraville-Footscray lost to ladder leaders Melbourne, 86 (16)-74 (2).

AFLW Academy

Western Jets’ Kristie-Lee Weston-Turner and Kiera Whiley were among those to participate in the first AFLW Academy for this year’s intake on the weekend. The camp included 30 of the country’s most promising footballers who started the camp at Essendon’s facility in Tullamarine before spending the last two days at Geelong Grammar. The camp will be followed by two additional camps later in the year, with the squad set to reconvene in April and June.

Footscray Angliss continued its good form in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association division 5 on Saturday. Angliss was able to restrict Barkly Street Uniting to 180 in reply to its score of 263 made on day one. Seabrook managed to avoid an outright loss to Melton South Royals. Seabrook was bowled out for 193 in reply to the Royals 8-331. Seabrook finished 5-68 in its second innings. Footscray Angliss sits in second spot, while Seabrook is 12th and Barkly Street Uniting is in 11th.
