Altona Magic came away with a point from its opening National Premier League match against Hume City. It was a hard fought battle with scores locked at 0-0 at half time. The Magic had a man sent off, before a free kick to Jonas Markovski gave them the 1-0 lead. Hume City hit back minutes later to lock scores up with the final result a 1-1 draw. The Magic face Avondale on Saturday in round two.
VFL
Victorian Football League fans are in for a treat with the six Victorian standalone clubs to compete in a practice match carnival. The carnival on March 4 will be played at Highgate Recreation Reserve, Craigieburn with three matches starting from 10.45am. Williamstown will face the Northern Bullants in the first match of the day, followed by Frankston and Werribee with the match between Coburg and Port Melbourne to finish the day. Entry will be free with football fans from across the state encouraged to get along for a huge day of football.
Australia Cup
Williamstown is through to the next round of the Australia Cup with a convincing win against Springvale City. Williamstown had little trouble against Springvale City, winning 3-0 with Keith Burch scoring twice and Ethan Babic also finding the back of the net. The third round of the competition will include the rest of the state league 3 sides and some state league two sides.
Bowls
Altona had a big win against the MCC in the Bowls Victoria weekend pennant premier division. Altona claimed three of the four rinks in the 91 (16)-67 (2) win, with Raymond Coulter’s rink the big winner on the day. Yarraville Footscray suffered a 95 (16)-64 (2) loss to Bundoora RSL. Altona sits fifth on the ladder and Yarraville Footscray in seventh.
