A strong third quarter was the key for the Altona Gators as they beat the Mornington Breakers in Big V men’s division 2. The Breakers led by three points at half time with the game an even contest. The Gators won the third quarter 23-11 to gain momentum. It would be enough as they held on to win 78-70. Samson Rocker top scored with 20 points for the Gators. The Gators now sit fourth on the table with a 12-6 record. This week they are on the road on Saturday night against the Pakenham Warriors, before hosting Gippsland United on Sunday.

NPL

Altona Magic fell short against Dandenong City in the National Premier League on Saturday. The Magic took the lead in the 17th minute through John Stojcevski, before Dandenong City hit back just after half time. A penalty in the 82nd minute gave Dandenong City the lead and they held on to win, 2-1. The Magic was sitting 10th after the Saturday matches. The Magic this week host Avondale on Saturday.

FV

Yarraville Glory was no match for Keilor Park in the FV state league 1 north-west competition on Saturday. Keilor Park were dominant in its 3-0 win. The result means the Glory slip behind Keilor Park on the ladder. Altona City also had a tough time of it, losing 1-0 to the Essendon Royals on Friday night. In state league 3 north-west, Williamstown beat Diamond Valley United, 4-1, while Altona North’s match with Heidelberg Eagles was washed out.

VAFA

Williamstown CYMS stuck within striking distance of Fitzroy but wasn’t able to get the win in the Victorian Amateur Football Association premier B competition. The CYs led at the first break, before the Lions hit the front at half time. They would stay there, winning 13.14 (92)-9.13 (67). Jai Haines was the CYS best. The CYs, who sit eighth, this week face bottom side Old Carey.
