An early goal to Avondale was the difference against Altona Magic in the National Premier League on Saturday. Joseph Katebian scored in the second minute and it would be the only score in the 1-0 win. The Magic have now lost five games in a row and the side now sits 10th. This week they face South Melbourne on Saturday night at Lakeside Stadium.

Williamstown CYMS’ future in the Victorian Amateur Football Association premier B competition is one step closer after a big win against Old Carey on Saturday. The CYs led by four points at quarter time, before six goals to none broke the game open in the second quarter. They continued the momentum in the second half, winning 18.13 (121)-10.7 (67). Jack Noonan kicked six goals in the win. The CYs now sit two games clear of Old Carey.

Altona City kept in touch with the top sides in the FV state league 1 north-west competition with a vital win. On Saturday, Altona City beat Strathmore 1-0 with a goal to Jarime Radio in the 79th minute. Altona sits in sixth spot. Altona this week faces Sydenham Park on Saturday. Meanwhile on Saturday, Yarraville Glory had a 0-0 draw with Sydenham Park. In state league 2 north-west, Altona East Phoenix beat Lalor United 2-0.

A-League

It was back to business for Western United as pre-season got underway last week. After a few weeks of celebrating the club’s first championship, the playing group returned to training last week. Star defender Josh Risdon said they were all excited to get back on the track. “It was a good little break,” he said. “Obviously it’s a bit different winning the grand final and celebrating for a while.
