Altona has made a statement with a six-wicket win over Werribee in the Sub-District cricket at Chirnside Park on Saturday.
The A’s are now second on the ladder and will surely have no fears over any side they face for the remainder of the season after claiming the scalp of one of the competition’s leading sides.
Containment was the key to the A’s bowling. They sent the Tigers in and managed to restrict them to 4-174 off a maximum 45 overs.
Shannon Clarke was outstanding with the new ball for the A’s, finishing with an economical 2-16 off nine overs.
Altona’s run chase was steady throughout. Opener Adam Brown provided the backbone, batting right through the 42.3 overs for 57 not out.
Brown is putting together an impressive start to the summer with 119 runs at 59.5.
Aaron Maynard maintained his hot form to make 65 and feature in a telling 101-run stand with Brown.
The A’s will set their sights on fourth-placed Oakleigh in a blockbuster two-day game at Frank Kirk Oval starting on Saturday.
Yarraville came a cropper against Oakleigh at the Yarraville Oval.
The Eagles could muster only 8-111 and the Oaks cruised to the target five down.
Nathan Allen was the only shining light for the Eagles with 30 and 2-9 off nine overs.
