Young Western United star Rhys Bozinovski has re-signed with the A-League club for the next two seasons.
The 18-year-old midfielder has developed exponentially since joining the Western United Academy in 2021, making his senior debut in early May this year against Adelaide United and was part of the grand final team.
He made his first start last month.
Bozinovski said he is delighted to be continuing in Green and Black and believes he has a lot more to come on the pitch.
“I couldn’t be more happy to have extended my stay at Western United,” he said. “I have loved every second of it and I can’t wait to be a part of more success in the future.
“I’m looking forward to being a part of something special again this year and hopefully playing more regular football with the first team, whether that be starting or coming off the bench. That would be a big stepping stone in my career.”
Bozinovski transitioned quickly through the academy and signed his first professional deal in the same year he joined the academy.
He said making the move from the youth league team to the senior side was tough last season, but everyone at the club had helped him tremendously to develop not only as a player, but also as a person.
Football general manager Mal Impiombato praised the impact of the academy program, and the hard work that Bozinovski has put in.
He said they were delighted to see Bozinovski extend his tenure at the club.
“It is always pleasing to see a player progress through the club’s academy into the first team and we are excited for what lies ahead for both Rhys and the club.”
In 2022, Bozinovski has also been called up to three separate Young Socceroos camps, representing his country for the first time and helping the team qualify for the 2023 AFC under-20 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan.
