Bulldogs’ batting power

Footscray put on another batting show this time headlined by Dylan Kight six fest in the final over against Fitzroy Doncaster on Saturday.

The return of the Victorian Premier Cricket season was a good one for the Bulldogs who moved to second on the ladder with another win.

It was set up with the batting performance as the Bulldogs made 2-354 from their 50 overs.

Mitchell Jamieson made his first century of the season, finishing 120 not out.

Dylan Brasher again made runs with 54 before his departure brought Dylan Kight to the middle.

Jamieson and Kight put on 182 runs to push the score beyond 350.

Kight finished with 128 off 80 balls including 14 sixes.

The final over was one for the records.

Jamieson hit a single off the first ball of the over, before Kight hit six straight sixes, including one off a no ball.

Bulldogs coach Dale McDonald said it was amazing to watch.

“It was no good for the young fellow batting,” he said. “It was pretty insane.

“To get 38 off the last over and he went from 10 to 120 in just 10 balls.

“It’s a club record. It was amazing to watch. We didn’t believe what we were seeing.”

For Kight it’s his second 100 of the season to go with three half centuries.

McDonald said they always knew that Kight could bat like this.

“He’s a team first man,” he said. “He’s always batted down the order and his role has changed a little bit.

“He’s batting a bit higher which I wanted him to do.”

McDonald said it was pleasing to see Jamieson get some reward and get a century after five half centuries.

The Lions were in trouble at 3-36 before recovering to be 3-100 but after that lost frequent wickets throughout, finishing 9-185.

Max Birthisel took three wickets.

McDonald said it was a really strong all round bowling performance.

Melbourne Renegades bowler Tom Rogers played for the Bulldogs as he comes back from injury.

McDonald said any time you can have a player like that at the club it only provides benefit to the rest of the group.

The Bulldogs now have a good launch pad for the second part of the season, sitting in second spot.

McDonald said they can’t switch off with it being a close competition.

“It’s pretty close in the top eight and we can’t rest on where we are.

“Anyone in the top 10 can finish as high as second. We have to be on our game.”

The Bulldogs face the Greenvale Kangaroos in a Saturday-Sunday game this weekend.
