Bulldogs take home gutsy win against unbeaten Crows

The Western Bulldogs recorded a historic victory over the weekend, taking home a one-point win against the Adelaide Crows.

In what turned out to be a close game, the Dogs managed to upset the unbeaten Crows with a 8.1 (49) to 7.6 (48) win.

The Dogs were off to a flying start, kicking three back-to-back goals in the first term.

The crows quickly responded with two of their own, before a late goal by Ellie Blackburn cemented a comfortable lead for the Dogs heading into the second quarter.

The Bulldogs continued their momentum into the second term, with two quick goals from Celine Moody and Britney Gut.

Coming back from the main break, the Crows forward pressure ramped up with three early attempts at goal. Both teams only managed one goal apiece in the third term, and as the final quarter loomed the Dogs looked like they had the win in the bag.

The Crows came out strong in the final quarter however and turned the game on its head with three goals of their own.

Luckily for the Dogs, their strong lead placed them in a good position, and they managed to hold onto a one point lead.

Ellie Blackburn was again impressive, notching up 23 disposals, two marks, one goal and four tackles and was named in the Bulldogs best.

In a post-game press conference, coach Nathan Burke said the team’s performance was amazing considering the hot conditions and travel time to Adelaide.

“They not only gutsed it out but they played some really, really good footy,” he said.

“They were coming to the bench, they were absolutely cooked and I just kept asking them, to give more and more and they just did.”

With two wins in a row, the Dogs will now head back to their home turf to take on Geelong on Friday, February 18.
