Fresh off a Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division premiership, Yarraville Club has added a Victorian Premier Cricket star to its ranks.
The Clubbers announced on Saturday that former state player Michael Hill had joined the club for the next two seasons.
“As a left handed top order batsman, ‘Hilly’ has had a decorated career,” the Clubbers said on social media.
“He played 20 first class matches and 28 list A games with both Victoria and Tasmania from 2008 to 2015, as well as 14 games in the BBL with the Melbourne Renegades and the Hobart Hurricanes.
“Hilly registered two first class centuries, including one against the touring English team in 2010-11. He also captained the Australian under-19 team in 2008, whose alumni include Steve Smith, James Pattinson, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Hazlewood and the late Phil Hughes.
“Michael had an equally impressive Victorian Premier Cricket career, playing 234 first XI matches and captaining both the Melbourne and Essendon cricket clubs, as well as playing for Lindisfarne in Tasmanian Premier Cricket during his three year stint in the Apple Isle.
“With over 8500 first XI runs, 13 centuries and 50 half centuries, there can be little doubting his credentials.”
The move to the Clubbers will reunite Hill with Clubbers coach Mitch Johnstone. Johnstone coached Hill for three seasons at Essendon.
The Clubbers said that aside from being an important cog in their first XI batting order, Hill looks forward to supporting the batting development of many of the younger players at the club.
