Yarraville Seddon needs to close the gap between its best and its worst in the Western Region Football League division 1.

The Eagles have played some good football this year, but the lack of consistency across games and from week to week is hurting them.

The mixed form was on show on Saturday against the Werribee Districts.

The Tigers proved way too strong, winning 18.14 (122)-7.11 (53).

Eagles coach Brad Julier said it was a roller coaster of a match.

“We had a bit of a slow start and then had a good second quarter,” he said. “We were blown away in the third quarter and it was too late in the fourth.

“We played some really good football and some not so good football. We need to close the gap between the good and the bad.”

Arkii Van Wills was the only multiple goal kicker for the Eagles on Saturday, kicking two goals.

Blake Green, Sam Walker and Akol Deng were named the Eagles best.

Julier said they were playing better football than they did last year and closing the gap to the top sides.

He said the biggest thing was getting continuity. The side currently sits in eighth, one of three teams with one win.

“We have a young side and we’ve had a lot of changes every week,” he said.

“We can’t get our best 22 out there two weeks in a row. COVID, sickness, injuries and all different types of things.

“Every week there are four to five changes. We’re getting game into young guns, but the cohesion isn’t there.

“We’ve had six under-18s make their debuts, so the future is bright. We need to find ways to win a few more games of football.”

The Eagles this week face St Albans at St Albans. Julier said it would be another test for them.

In other results, Altona accounted for Hoppers Crossing, 9.9 (63)-5.7 (35).

The Vikings set the win up with a 27 to one first quarter.

Spotswood got the points against Point Cook in another low scoring affair.

After trailing by two points, the Woodsman kicked four goals to none in the second quarter to open up a lead of 24 points. They would win 9.7 (61)-5.6 (36).

Caroline Springs and Deer Park were the other winners in division 1.

In division 2, North Footscray, Newport, Point Cook Centrals and Wyndhamvale were the winners, while in division 3, Sunshine Heights, Albanvale and Braybrook were the winners.
