A trio of western suburbs football players are off to the big time after being snapped up in today’s AFLW draft.
Williamstown VFL star Sophie Van De Heuvel did not have to wait long for her football dream to come true, after Geelong took her with the second overall pick.
She will join number one pick Nina Morrison at the Cattery in 2019, Geelong’s first year in the AFLW competition.
Footscray VFL player Lauren Butler was also taken early in the draft, with Collingwood picking the talented forward with selection 18.
Butler’s Footscray teammate Jess Davies will remain in red, white and blue, after the Western Bulldogs selected her with pick 46.
More to come.
