Spotswood has produced three finals-type wins to start the Western Region Football League division 1 season.
The Woodsmen remain one of only two undefeated sides in the competition, along with Werribee Districts, and are beginning to emerge as a premiership contender.
Wins over the improving Sunshine Kangaroos on the road, four-peat premiers Deer Park and the highly-rated Altona have given new coach Anthony Eames the perfect start to life at The Avenue.
Spotswood had to dig deep to secure a three-point win over Altona at McLean Reserve on Saturday.
The Woodsmen, off-colour with just three goals in the first half, came roaring back from a 26-point half-time deficit to snatch an unforgettable come-from-behind win over one of their biggest rivals.
Murray Boyd, Jordan Bennett and Dylan Callard booted two goals apiece for the Woodsmen.
Spotswood will travel to Albion on Saturday to face former player-coach Chris O’Keefe, who is now in charge of the Cats.
Altona, which is a luckless 0-3 after three games, get offered no respite in round four, having to face ladder-leader Werribee Districts at Grant Reserve on Saturday.
In division 2, Newport Power was competitive for three quarters against North Footscray in its first game since promotion from the third tier before running out of legs to lose by 50 points at Bryan Martyn Oval.
Leading by 14 points entering the last quarter, North Footscray piled on 10 goals to four in the final stanza to record a runaway win.
Yarraville-Seddon was dominant after half-time in a 48-point win over Manor Lakes at Howqua Reserve. Scott Miller and Chris Topalidis booted three goals apiece for the Eagles. West Footscray led at half-time against Albanvale, but wound up losing by 18 points in a closely fought contest at Robert Bruce Oval.
