Ewan, Elvin rule Bay Classic

Caleb Ewan has taken out the Williamstown leg of the Mitchelton Bay Classic Criterium.

Ewan, 21, of the Orica-GreenEDGE cycling team, won the fourth stage in a time of 1.00:07, ahead of Brenton Jones (Drapac Professional) and Alexander Edmondson (Orica GreenEDGE).

Ewan was a runaway general classification winner with 43 points, ahead of Jones with 30 and Patrick Shaw (Avanti IsoWhey Sports) with 27.

Lizzie Williams (Orica-AIS) claimed the Williamstown leg of the elite women’s section.

Williams crossed the line first in a time of 44.14 – 16 seconds clear of Julie Leth (Ale Cycling). Williams was equal-second in the general classification with Valentina Scandolara (Ale Cycling) on 32 points, six behind tour winner Gracie Elvin (Orica-AIS).

The junior support race was also conducted at Williamstown with Brunswick Cycling Club young gun Graeme Frislie taking the spoils in 24.49 from David Williams (Carnegie Caulfield) and Samuel Buckell (Bendigo and District).
